Opportunities to participate:
Honor Band - High/Middle School students rehearse and perform with students from around the Albuquerque. Participants are nominated by their directors and are typically some of the best in the city. Middle School rehearsals this year are November 14-18, 2011 from 6:30-8:30 at Madison Middle School. High School rehearsals are November 18-20, 2011 at Cibola High School. Students must be able to attend every rehearsal and the concert on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 3:00 at Cibola High School. If you child is interested, please let Mr. Bratcher know by September 30, 2011. There is a $20.00 fee for every student selected to cover the cost of the guest conductor.
All-State Band - High School students prepare required music and audition for a spot in the group. Participants are the best musicians from the entire state of New Mexico and meet in January to rehearse and perform. The level of music and the demands on the students to learn and perform in a short amount of time are very high. The rehearsals will be January 4-7, 2012 at the University of New Mexico and the performance is January 7, 2012 in Popejoy Hall on the University campus. Students must be able to attend every rehearsal and the performance. If you child is interested, he/she must let Mr. Bratcher know by Friday, October 7, 2011. The auditions will be held either November 16 or 17 at La Cueva High School. Students will be assigned an audition time after they register. The registration fee is $12.00. Audition music is available at Music Mart.
Solo/Ensemble Festival - High/Middle School students prepare an approved solo, duet, trio, etc. and perform for a judge. The judge provides written and verbal comments on the performance and assigns the participant a rating. The rating is an assessment of the individual performance and the participants are not ranked or compared to each other. All students receive a certificate of participation showing their rating. The High School Festival is February 4, 2012 and students must let Mr. Bratcher know of their intent to participate by Friday, December 2, 2011. The Middle School Festival is April 28, 2012 at John Adams Middle School and must let Mr. Bratcher know of their intent to participate by Friday, March 30, 2012. The registration fee is $5.00 per solo and $5.00 per participant in an ensemble. Solos must have a piano accompaniment. Music must be approved by Mr. Bratcher before registering.
