Our director is Mr. Brad Bratcher. Mr. Bratcher comes from Missouri with a very strong background in band/music education. He received his Bachelors of Science in Music Education degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia and taught in Lee’s Summit, Park Hill, and East Buchanan where his groups received excellent honors and festival ratings. He is a member of NAfME and NMMEA.

After moving to New Mexico in 2002, Mr. Bratcher believes God helped him find his way to the Mid-Rio Grande Home School Band and he has been the director since the fall of 2003. Since that time, the group has grown from two bands at one location to five levels of bands and three levels of guitar in three different rehearsal locations. A strong advocate for the importance of music education, his energy and enthusiasm for music and the students is unmatched.

Besides teaching the home school band, Mr. Bratcher also teaches trumpet and guitar privately, is a regular teacher at Hummingbird Music Camp, and has performed with the Rio Rancho Symphonic Band, Valencia County Community Band, and High Desert Brass. He is also the owner of Salpizo Music, a band instrument repair shop, and is a member of the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians.

Outside of teaching and repairing instruments, Mr. Bratcher enjoys spending time in the mountains with his wife, Nicole, and children, Sam and Charlotte.
